For those who crave even more power, a 650i Gran Coupe arrives this summer with a new version of the BMW 4.4-liter TwinPower Turbo V8. In the 2013 650i Gran Coupe, this engine gains VALVETRONIC variable valve timing to boost output to 445 hp (up from 400 in other 2012 BMW models) and a massive 480 lb/ft of torque from 2,000-4,500 rpm. When paired with xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive, this potent V8 will rocket the 650i Gran Coupe from zero to 60 mph in just 4.3 seconds.
All 6 Series Gran Coupe models come equipped exclusively with the eight-speed Sport Automatic transmission that provides, automatic “Sport” and “Manual” shift modes and steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters. The 6 Series suspension, crafted mainly from aluminum and aided by standard Dynamic Damper Control, delivers the hallmark BMW blend of agility and velvety ride quality.
Aware that they were dealing with matters of the heart, BMW designers knew not to disturb the 6 Series two-door theme when creating a four-door version. The 6 Series Gran Coupe adds just over four inches to its two-door sibling’s wheelbase and length, enough to provide a more spacious rear seat area yet retain a coupe-like silhouette. The long hood/short trunk lid proportions remain intact as well, and, of course, the 6 Series Gran Coupe still cuts through the air with the shark-like nose of the two-door model.
BMW, while adding room to the rear seat area, kept the look of the two-door’s four-seat interior. However, the Gran Coupe can accommodate five, and its standard split/folding rear seats expand cargo room.
