BMW 5 Series Hybrid Readies for American Debut
Luxury Automaker Expanding Battery-Boosted Lineup with ActiveHybrid 5
BMW is committed to building more and more powerful luxury sedans and sports cars, but it wants to do so while improving the fuel efficiency of its lineup. Those efforts have led to the creation of the BMW ActiveHybrid 5 sedan, which will reach U.S. BMW dealers next March sporting impressive power figures and much-improved fuel efficiency.
Based on the BMW 535i Sedan, the ActiveHybrid 5 is expected to get a 35-horsepower boost over its gas-only sibling, along with double-digit percentage improvements in fuel economy, according to the automaker’s initial testing. BMW shoppers will have two hybrid sedan options after the launch of the 5 Series hybrid, with the other choice being the ActiveHybrid 7, the world’s fastest street-legal hybrid car.

Facts About the Group Behind the Ultimate Driving Machine
1916: FOUNDING OF BAYERISCHE FLUGZEUG-WERKE~
Bayerische Flugzeug-Werke (BFW) was founded on March 7, 1916. The new company incorporated Otto-Werke. BMW acquired the BFW site in 1922, but Bayerische Motoren Werke continues to regard BFW's establishment as its date of founding.
1992: BMW VENTURES INTO THE USA~
BMW decided to build a car plant in the USA, thus emphasizing its status as a global player. The plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina, designed specifically for the production of the new BMW Z3 Roadster, was opened in 1994. The Z3 was exported all over the world from there. In the late 1990s, the plant extended its production facilities for the BMW X5, which is likewise only built in Spartanburg.

One Mighty Pumpkin!
This is not your average pumpkin! Bob Duffy, a long-time technician at BMW of Peabody grew this larger than life pumpkin for the Topsfield Fair's annual Giant Pumpkin Weigh-Off.
Bob has been growing pumpkins for years and entering them in to this historic contest. This year, he took home the third place prize, with his pumpkin weighing in at 1,513 pounds. That's one serious pumpkin!
Some of the staff at BMW of Peabody were lucky enough to actually see the pumpkin, up close and personal. It's absolutely amazing!
