Sign up for Some Fun in New England
Join a local club or organization and fill your calendar with events and activities.

The New England region offers plenty of social clubs for you to get involved in, no matter what your personal interests. Whether you enjoy playing a challenging game of chess or exploring the roads of Vermont on your bike, share your passion with old and new friends alike.

Sport and adventure enthusiasts should check out the Boston Ski and Sports Club (BSSC) based in Watertown, Massachusetts. Established in 1967, BSSC offers socially active professionals an opportunity to enjoy quality programs that introduce them to new people and activities year-round. From a variety of sports leagues – like tennis, kickball and ultimate Frisbee – to day- and week-long ski trips and even international getaways, BSSC has plenty of exciting opportunities. By becoming a member, you can take advantage of discounts on every activity while also enjoying access to deals at more than 100 retail stores, health clubs and service companies. Find out more about the club at www.bssc.com.

Whether you have a true green thumb or you’re just learning how to start a garden, consider joining a local garden club. The Rhode Island Federation of Garden Clubs, Inc., (RIFGC) has been active since 1930 and today boasts more than 2,000 members and 40 clubs. RIFGC club members share a mission to nurture the interest and appreciation of the natural world through education, civic beautification, networking and preserving the state’s natural resources. By becoming a member of a federation-affiliated garden club, you can enjoy a wide variety of educational opportunities and maybe even make some new friends. Visit www.rigardenclubs.org for membership information and to find a garden club near you.

The Maine Chess Association (MECA) promotes chess clubs and other chess activities all over the state, and you can find a nearby club using the online directory at www.chessmaine.net/chessmaine/mccd. The Augusta Chess Club meets every Tuesday evening at the local Barnes and Noble while the Eastport Chess Club meets Sunday afternoons at The Rose Garden. There are also regular events held throughout the year worth checking out like the Maine State Championship in Waterville on April 21 and 22, 2012. Learn more at www.chessmaine.net/chessmaine/news.

Do you enjoy riding the winding roads through the lush hills of Vermont? Share your love of cycling with others by joining the Bennington Cycle Club. The club organizes weekly rides and weekend excursions that vary in distance and difficulty. Some of the locations visited include Dana Thompson Memorial Park in Vermont, Petersburg to Green Hollow and Cossayuna Lake in New York. Start pedaling at www.benningtoncycleclub.com.

Don’t be afraid to try something new or just brush up on an old hobby. Local clubs and organizations will help you make new friends and keep you busy all season long.
