Employee health and safety training is an essential part of meeting U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration compliance requirements and in a laboratory facility is especially important in maintaining a safe workplace for all employees. This article reviews three case studies to illustrate the benefits and the limitations of web-based training in the laboratory environment.

Building Commissioning applies a process of review, verification, and documentation during construction that the building systems or final product conform to the project design requirements in every way. It should be understood that the final product is developed and constructed in layers over time in an uncontrolled or discontinuous environment. The quality assurance that commissioning provides is most effective when applied to all construction phases or layers. The importance of one layer of the construction process that is sometimes taken for granted is equipment start-up.
