Audi styled the 2009 A5 to be a sport coupe from the get-go. Sleek and swoopy, the A5 is a standout styling statement. Pour on the plush, drop in some power, season for handling and add a large helping of technology, and you have the recipe for an exciting driverís car. Thatís the 2009 Audi A5!
The 2009 Audi A5 is one sexy beast! It stands out in a crowd like the devil wearing Prada, and it goes like a bat out of you-know-where. Best of all, the A5 is better than ever this model year. Audiís awesome Drive Select package with an electronically adjustable suspension and a variable-ratio steering system is now available as is adaptive cruise control and a blind-spot warning system. The driving thrills have not changed for 2009.
Built on the A4 platform, the A5 takes on a personality and style uniquely its own. Simply put, the 2009 A5 has lots of curb appeal. In addition to its seductive looks, the A5 has performance to match.
The 2009 Audi A5 luxury sport coupe comes in a single trim level Ė plush. Standard features include front foglights, halogen headlights, a panoramic sunroof, 18-inch cast alloy wheels, automatic three-zone climate control, a 10-speaker audio system with a six-CD changer and SIRIUS Satellite Radio. Prices start at an MSRP of $40,700.
Some optional features include bi-xenon headlamps with LED daytime running lights, 19-inch five-spoke alloy wheels, heated front seats, HomeLink universal remote, adaptive cruise control, Audi Music Interface for controllling an iPod and a 505-watt Bang & Olufsen premium audio system.
Safety equipment includes antilock brakes, stability control, front-seat side airbags and side-curtain airbags Ė all standard equipment on the 2009 Audi A5.
Audiís S Line Package incorporates available 19-inch alloys, a sport-tuned suspension system, front and rear fascia upgrades and interior amenities like side-bolstered sport seats with soft leather and special Alcantara upholstery, sleek aluminum accents and sport-shifting paddleshifters. The Audi Drive Select Package allows you to select driving modes, from ultra-comfortable to super-sporty with a nice happy medium position, too.
The 2009 Audi A5 power plant is a 3.2-liter FSI direct injection V6 that develops 265 hp and 243 lb/ft of torque under the control of a six-speed manual or available six-speed automatic transmission. Audi says the manual transmission A5 is good for zero-to-60 mph in 5.8 seconds. One reviewerís best time with an automatic-equipped A5 was 5.9 seconds. EPA estimates are 16 mpg city/27 mpg highway and 20 mpg combined with manual transmission.
As for performance, the A5 is more than a ďgentlemanísĒ sport coupe. Itís a great handler with its adaptive suspension and quattro AWD. The A5 also has Autobahn-bred speed and distance comfort. Both transmissions are winners with the stick being an easy-shifter and the automatic featuring ultra-quick manual mode shifts.
The A5 has one of the nicest of the always-topnotch Audi interiors. Itís both luxurious and Bauhaus at the same time. The power adjustable front seats in the base A5 are ďeasyĒ chairs while the sport seats in the S Line Package are bolstered for speed and sport. The seating is low-slung like a sportscar Ė an arrangement that emphasizes the difference between the A5 coupe and, say, an A4 sedan. Not surprisingly, the cabin feels roomy, no doubt due to the A5ís large glass roof (which cracks open for ventilation). The three-zone climate system keeps things comfy, and the 10-speaker stereo with CD player and Bluetooth connectivity takes care of entertainment and communications. The rear seat is actually useable Ė not so in many sport coupes Ė and even has separate climate controls mounted on the rear of the console. Controls on top of the front seats make it easy to slide them forward whether you're in the backseat or standing outside the car waiting to get in.
Audi's proprietary Multi Media Interface (MMI) operates as a central systems control with a knob mounted on either the center stack or the center console, depending on whether you have the optional navigation system. The MMI is more intuitive than most single-dial controls. The trunk offers a very generous 16.1 cubic feet of cargo capacity, and, for extra convenience, the 60/40-split rear seat folds down to accommodate larger items.
The 2009 Audi A5 is striking and beautiful with styling that attracts and pleases the eye. Itís a standout for all the right reasons. Itís also a satisfying package of performance and comfort that out-luxes most rivals. Provided you arenít the jealous type and you donít mind admiring glances, the 2009 Audi A5 is a gorgeous and attentive driving companion.
