Did You Know?
The Dog Days of Summer.... According to Roman beliefs, Sirius, the Dog Star of Roman astrology, was the brightest star in the sky, which rose daily with the sun, from early July to mid-August. The intense heat during this period of the year was ascribed not only to the heat of the sun but to the Dog Star as well. Interesting to note other idioms that use “dog”; Putting on the dog, gone to the dogs, dog earred, dog face, dog fight, dog tired, doggie bag, hang dog, and in the dog-house. It is of no question that dogs have truly been significant to our language for many generations. Common Phrases, Lyons Press- Copyright 2002, Myron Korach and John Mordock.
