Baldor’s St. Louis, MO stamping plant made a part retriever using a Baldor enclosed linear motor stage and a Baldor MintDrive II AC Servo control. The retreiver removes lamination blanks for 5000, 5800, 6800, and 7200 frame motors from a stamping press.

Before the retreiver, the blanks were removed from the press by hand. This required single stroking the press and produced only 12 parts per minute. The retriever allows the press to be run in continuous mode at up to 40 parts per minute.

In a December 19, 2003 letter to Baldor’s Chairman, Rollie Boreham, Marvin Altman Sales Manager, Don Ridgley, says these motors are performing very admirably under tough duty, which is near-continuous duty, six days a week. The treadmills have an average of over 60,000 miles of usage with zero Baldor failures!!
