from some very shady stock-option deals, to the detriment of Comverse
shareholders. Once the deals became public and he was indicted, he
resigned as CEO and fled the US. Alexander was traced... after he
placed a one-minute call using Skype. That was enough to alert

Is Nettwerk reinventing the music business?
To all appearances, Nettwerk is just a midsize music management company
with an indie record label on the side. Many of the artists on its
client roster – which includes Avril Lavigne, Dido, Sarah McLachlan,
and Stereophonics – are mainstream acts. But McBride, the company's
cofounder and creative force, is quietly carrying out a plan to
reinvent the music industry, including legalizing file-sharing and
giving artists control over their own intellectual property...

Enforcing net neutrality with a two-by-four
About ten years ago, as the Internet soared in popularity, consumers
and businesses began to attach new devices and create new services for
the network. The reaction of the broadband carriers was decidedly ugly:
- AT&T warned customers that using Wi-Fi was a 'federal crime'
- Cox Cable disciplined users of virtual private networks
- Comcast blocked traffic, which hampered government telecommuters...

Internet Is Seizing the Spotlight in the Live-Music Business
Years after the breakup of the Bogmen, a highly regarded New York
underground band, Billy Campion, the group’s lead singer, still
attracts a core of followers. So when he asked fans planning to attend
a performance at the Boogaloo club in Brooklyn to bring their digital
cameras and camera phones, many listened. Less than two months ago, a
video cobbled together from fans’ films had its debut on YouTube, the
hugely popular video-sharing site. Since it appeared — and landed a

has been viewed more than 120,000 times...
