Is the Record Industry going after music lyrics?
[There's] a little freeware application called pearLyrics that
populated iTunes with lyrics of your currently playing tracks. Well,
have no fear, this "menace" is no longer available to the public thanks
to the big wigs at Warner/Chappell Music. According to Macnn the music
company sent a cease and desist order to the [software developer]...

RIAA Sues Woman Who Has No Computer For Sharing Music
It certainly wouldn't be the first time something like this has
happened, but the lawyers who are fighting the RIAA on behalf of one
woman, say they've heard about another lawsuit (unfortunately, they
don't provide any links to info about the lawsuit) on behalf of a woman
who says she didn't even own a working computer at the time the RIAA
claims she was a threat to the industry. Perhaps she was singing so
loudly her neighbors could hear her...

Only 2% of Consumers Care About Legal Issues With Downloading Music
Only 2% of people who paid a fee to download music from the Internet
cited that the contentious legal issues surrounding online music
distribution concerned them. This statistic comes from Ipsos-Reid's
latest research... The shockingly low number should come as a warning
to the Record Industry Association of America (RIAA) who have so far
sued thousands for file sharing in the expectation that they can scare
consumers in buying instead of trading. First, this is not a way to tap
into this audience and second the tactic isn't working...

BlackBerry Dispute: US Government Intercedes
in the event of an injunction, RIMM must be permitted time to acquire
and filter all federal, state, and local user network traffic. That is,
someone will have to assemble a comprehensive list of all federal
BlackBerry users, government contractors, the affected personnel in all
fifty states, a countless number of localities and first responders,
etc.... before the injunction can be levied!

The RIAA - Hollywood - DRM - Linux Suicide Pact
The entertainment industry has put itself on the fast-track to
destruction, using well-proven tactics as explained in Preventing DVD
Playback on Linux Like Prohibition in the 1920's. Are their heavy-
handed tactics to lock up and control everything we touch signs of
plain old human stubborness? Stupidity? Insanity? A bit of each? How
else do you explain their inexplicable actions?

Sponsored Gnutella Search Results
A new service called Gnutelligence aims to do to the gnutella network
what Google's Adsense did for website publishers. Except in this case,
Gnutelligence would be the only publisher... [using] any gnutella
client and a search for "The Matrix" might bring you a result that when
clicked on would launch a browser window to an advertiser...

CNN's non-coverage of the Sony DRM/Rootkit debacle
CNN [is] not covering Sony DRM story & there's speculation it's due to
them being part of Time Warner (& RIAA). CNN.com removed a story from
last month re: DRM & artists but Google's cache has it. The old story
is not much compared to the rootkit story but its removal and them not
covering the rootkit story is suspicious...

RIAA President: Sony Has Acted Very Responsibly
Michael Santo: 'I think Recording Industry Association of America
(RIAA) President Cary Sherman must have his head buried in the sand, as
he seems to feel the actions of Sony BMG in the (what can only be
termed) [Rootkit] fiasco have been “very responsible”. He made this
statement in a university press round table discussion...'

Newspaper Circulation Slips 2.6 Percent
Average weekday circulation at U.S. newspapers fell 2.6 percent during
the six month-period ending in September in the latest sign of trouble
in the newspaper business, an industry group reported Monday. Sunday
circulation also fell 3.1 percent at newspapers reporting to the Audit
Bureau of Circulations, according to an analysis of the data by the
Newspaper Association of America. The declines show an acceleration of
a years-long trend of falling circulation at daily newspapers as more
people, especially young adults, turn to the Internet for news...
