Customizing Photo Album views
Create your own album view formats

The Photo Album view mode in your shared folders can be completely customized. The size and layout of the thumbnails is defined in a template file. By editing the template file (e.g., in Notepad), you can modify how Photo Album views appear to your site's visitors.

The default Photo Album view

The "jpgthumb.hts" template file allows the size and spacing of Photo Album views to be completely customized. This file is always installed to the BadBlue folder (Personal Edition default installation folder is c:\program files\badblue\pe while the Enterprise Edition default is c:\program files\badblue\ee. Look for the jpgthumb.hts file in the folder and remember to make a backup copy of it if you intend to make changes. This will allow you to return to the default Photo Album view if your changes are unsatisfactory.

The jpgthumb.hts file consists of HTML markup with additional markup tags which BadBlue understands (BadBlue's markup tags always start with the letters ST_ to distinguish them from traditional HTML tags).

Layout of the "jpgthumb.hts" template file

The template file is divided into one or more sections delimited by "#########" lines. These sections can represent HTML table columns, rows or any combination of rows and columns. By default, four sections are provided which correspond to four columns using standard HTML table columns.

Using the default template, the default template file will render as many rows - in four column format - as JPG files exist in the folder.

Adding/removing columns and changing thumbnail size

By adding new sections (delimited by "#########") lines, you can add more columns to the folder view. To alter the size of the thumbnail images (for instance, if you would like an additional column, but smaller sizes for each thumbnail), simply modify the "a0" argument in the "img" tag. The "a0" argument specifies the maximum number of pixels to which the picture is scaled. The maximum pixel size applies either horizontally or vertically, depending upon the orientation of the picture.

To remove a column and increase the thumbnail image size, simply remove one of the internal column sections (which start with a "td" column start tag and end with a "/td" column end tag). To increase the thumbnail size, modify the "img" tag's "a0" argument to a larger value.

To test the new Photo Album view, press the browser's "refresh" button to reload the view. You can restore the backup copy of the "jpgthumb.hts" file to return to the original Photo Album format.

Sending a photo album URL to friends

Once you've established your IP address or domain name (see the domain-name help page for details), it's easy to send a link to a photo album to friends.

Say you've created a folder called "photos" using the "Manage >> Setup folder tab" menu. This folder has many large JPG images in it from your digital camera and it would be nice to view it in "album format" (with small, thumbnail images you can click on).

Instead of simply sending the address of the folder:

http://jsmith.dyndns.org/photos/

to your friends, you can add a "photo album view" string to the URL:

http://jsmith.dyndns.org/photos/?view=jpgthumb.hts
