Fight Back '09 - Spotlighting the good news in the IT industry

Gavin Lawless | As seen in ARNnet -- There is no doubt the next few months are going to be some of the toughest in global economic history – with layoffs expected to rise, businesses shutting their doors, and confidence slumping to all time lows. But there are glimmers of hope that come across the ARN news desk.
Yes, business conditions are tough, but smart business can thrive. And at ARN we want to spotlight those Australian companies and entities that are fighting back against the economic doom and gloom.
To give them more prominence and help turn the tide of business sentiment against the crisis to one of steely resolve, we’ve instigated a new section entitled “Fight Back ‘09”.
Already this year we have seen some good news: JB HiFi reported a record half-year net profit; telco, Clever Communications, announced a net profit guidance after losses in the previous year; and distributor, Express Data, signed two new deals, one with Sun Microsystems and the other with Autodesk.
There was also: Avnet’s Australian general manager, Gavin Lawless, predicting more vendors would look to push business through to channel partners to improve costs and processes; iTX recording a debt free and solid half-yearly profit of $4.41 million; and services provider, ASG scooping $30 million worth of new contracts.
