Avnet raised to 'Baa3'; outlook stable - Moody's
As seen in the CNNMoney.com -- Moody's Investors Service said it has raised the corporate family and senior unsecured ratings of US-based electronic components distributor Avnet (NYSE:AVT) Inc to 'Baa3' from 'Ba1' with a stable outlook.
Moody's said the upgrade reflects expectation that the company's operating performance will continue to benefit from the secular outsourcing trend in the electronics OEM (original equipment manufacturing) space, improved product mix, enhanced scale, increasing geographic diversity and an expanded line card with access to new customer relationships due to recent acquisitions.
The stable outlook reflects expectations for stable financial leverage and interest coverage metrics, relatively steady vendor/customer relationships, and maintenance of operating margins in the 2-4 pct range during an economic cycle, Moody's said.

Avnet launches Avnet Capital Solutions
Lisa Friesenhahn | As seen in eChannelLine -- Avnet Technology Solutions has launched Avnet Capital Solutions, its private-label leasing program that will allow Avnet partners to bundle hardware, software, services and any third party equipment under one financing agreement to their end customers.
"We wanted to create a program to help our partners provide creative financing options for their end users," said Lisa Friesenhahn, vice-president of leasing, services and remarketing sales with Avnet Technology Solutions, Americas. "We wanted this program to be offered exclusively through our partners and [involve] multiple brands and technologies that aren't necessary supported by supplier-based leasing programs."
With a comprehensive portfolio of leasing services for information technology purchases, Avnet's leasing team will guide partners throughout the entire financing process. They can assist in assessing end-users leasing requirements and work hand-in-hand with the partner to structure a deal to meet the individual needs of each customer.
The Avnet Capital Solutions team also provides quoting, contract development and can co-present the leasing proposal to the customer as needed by the partner.
As well, the program offers key advantages to partners like increase revenue because customers are able to purchase more technologies and services, and low upfront costs and scheduled monthly payments that make purchasing decisions easier, said Friesenhahn.
The flexibility of leasing also allows for more frequent technology upgrades and the ability to add on to existing solutions quickly, which results in incremental sales opportunities.
"Leasing is very important and [if you] look at today's market place and look at what is going on in the economy, cash is king. So I believe in the future even more customers are going to be holding onto their cash and wanting to finance and lease equipment versus depleting their cash resources and acquiring technologies with it," Friesenhahn noted.
She added leasing is also a great way for Avnet partners to become trusted advisors to their customers.
"When end users are coming to you not only for hardware and services but also coming to you for financing advice, those partners are tied very closely to the end user and if they want to do anything with technology whether to upgrade it or return it or get a lease buyout, they will be returning to their partner to get that information. It keeps the partner up to date and up to speed on future needs."
In addition to Avnet providing leasing sales resources to help its partners sell a financing solution, the company will also be rolling out a tool where partners can go online anytime and manage the lease portfolio for their end users.
"[We] will also be giving online access to the end user so they can actually see the equipment they have on lease, where it is in the lease cycle and give them the opportunity to pay their monthly bill online," said Friesenhahn.
She added that she hopes that Avnet Capital Solutions will help bring in 20 per cent more financing through Avnet Technology Solutions.

Avnet launches new Avnet Embedded
Patrick Zammit | As seen in New Electronics -- In a move to establish itself as a leader in the market for embedded boards, industrial networking products and displays, Avnet has launched Avnet Embedded, its new channel for embedded systems, networking and display products.
“The market for embedded system products beyond the pure chip level is increasing rapidly,” explained Avnet’s president, Patrick Zammit. “Many customers ask for solutions of higher integration, to reduce time to market and development costs, and therefore are starting to work with finished and semi finished solutions. By providing embedded systems products, we just naturally extend our offering to meet some of our customers needs.”
Avnet Embedded will initially serve markets in Germany, Italy, Spain and Eastern Europe, but over time extend its activities to other major European markets. The company will be led by Alessandro Brazzoni, director of Avnet Embedded sales and operations.
