Avnet takes over Maxim demand-creation channel
As seen in Electronic News -- Avnet Electronics Marketing (Avnet EM), an operating group of top distributor Avnet Inc., has expanded its agreement with Maxim Integrated Products, bumping aside Arrow Electronics and becoming the analog company's first global distributor.

In doing so, Maxim is making a significant change in its business model and will now be looking to Avnet for demand creation for the company's products through marketing and distribution. Previously, Maxim used a variety of independent distributors to service a broad segment of the company's customers.
Maxim believes the move will increase its products' exposure to a previously untapped set of customers. The agreement with Avnet takes effect immediately.

Avnet to play bigger role in ICT development
As seen in New Straits Times -- Avnet Technology Solutions Malaysia sees ample business opportunities from the information and communications technology (ICT) sector, given the Government's push to establish a knowledge- based economy and narrow the digital divide in the country.

Its general manager Chiew Yue Lam said that in line with this scenario, Avnet will continue to partner with leading ICT vendors in a move to support the development of the local ICT industry.

In this respect, Chiew said that the company plans to meet the increasing demand for cutting-edge ICT infrastructure, services and solutions, ranging from server and storage consolidation, virtualisation, system implementation to data migration and system management.

Avnet's 'foundry phenomenon'
As seen in Electronic News -- NEW YORK – The coming of foundries has benefited the electronics supply chain in terms of inventory, according to top distributor Avnet Inc., which Monday presented company information and industry views at its analyst day here.

Suggesting the semiconductor industry may be in for another 10-year growth cycle, Avnet chairman and CEO Roy Vallee compared the industry's last long stretch of growth, from the end of 1985 to early 1996, to its current stretch, which began in 2001. Vallee referenced Semiconductor Industry Association data showing that in the 1985 to 1991 time frame, the semiconductor market recorded a CAGR (compound annual growth rate) of 16.6% for sales of $33 billion. The 2001 to 2007 period saw a lower CAGR of 10.9% but higher sales of $120 billion. Behind this slower and more steady growth, Vallee said, is a more even components supply chain and more stable average selling prices (ASPs), brought about in part by a "foundry phenomenon."
