The electronics distributor was demoted in March, losing the title of Arizona's largest public company.
High metal prices put miner Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Inc. on a track to report $20 billion in 2007 revenue, outpacing the approximately $16 billion Avnet is expected to report on Aug. 8 for its fiscal year that ended June 30.
But Avnet's chairman and CEO, Roy Vallee, isn't sulking.
There's no shame in being No. 2 when your company's share price has more than doubled in the past year while supplying semiconductors, electronic components, mainframe computers, servers and other products to thousands of manufacturers around the world.

Auch nach der Übernahme der Enterprise-Sparte für das HP- und IBM-Geschäft von Magirus finden sich noch immer Lücken im Angebot von Avnet. "In unserem Portfolio in der Region EMEA haben wir noch zahlreiche weiße Flecken", bestätigt Borsboom, "entweder fehlen uns entsprechende Verträge mit Herstellern oder wir sind in einzelnen Ländern noch nicht vertreten."

More Valley firms gear recruiting to Gen Y traits

Get up to speed on Xilinx FPGAs
As seen in Electronic Design -- I recently had a chance to check out one of Avnet’s Speedway Design Workshops and their Virtex-4 FX PCIe Development Kit. The Speedway Design Workshops are half- or one-day courses that touch on specific design aspects using Avnet’s hardware like the PCEe Development Kit. They are not in-depth training courses for the uninitiated. Rather, they are introductions for experienced designers in need of a starting point for dealing with new technology like high-speed serial interfaces in FPGAs.
