Vehicle Details: 2012 Jeep® Patriot Value and Safety

A genuine Jeep experience at an ordinary SUV price

The 2012 Jeep® Patriot not only goes above and beyond the call of duty in protecting your and your passengers and providing Jeep performance and capability; the amazing part of the story is how the Jeep Patriot also leads the charge for value with equal vigor.
A $15,995 starting MSRP makes the 2012 Jeep Patriot the most affordable SUV in America. Of course, you can tailor Patriot capability and comfort to your taste with aggressively priced trim level options and available equipment packages, but you’ll still be driving the value hero in the small SUV brigade, and you’ll still get an Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) “Top Safety Pick” rating.
For 2012, the Patriot offers Sport, Latitude and Limited trims. The Sport and Latitude (with FWD) get their gumption from a 158-hp 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder engine that comes with either a five-speed manual transmission or a second-generation Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT2) with AutoStick. Rather than using set gear ratios, a CVT varies the transmission ratio continuously and automatically, ensuring that the engine delivers the right amount of power for any situation while maximizing fuel economy. The AutoStick feature provides for driver control if desired with six simulated stepped-gear ratios. With the manual transmission, the front-wheel drive Patriot Sport and Latitude score an impressive 29 mpg on the highway.
A larger, 172-hp 2.4-liter inline four-cylinder comes standard in the Patriot Limited (and in 4WD Sport and Latitude trims) and is available for the others. Remarkably, with the manual transmission, this larger, more powerful engine returns 28 mpg highway fuel economy, making it a compelling choice.
Strong value in the 2012 Jeep Patriot doesn’t stop with the low price. That frugal entry fee gets you a long list of standard features including cruise control, deep-tint glass, illuminated cup holders, an outside temperature indicator, rear window wiper, rear-seat heat ducts, a tilt steering column, roof side rails and an audio jack. The 2012 Jeep Patriot Sport also provides a removable and rechargeable flashlight. Slide the sun visor lids, and you’ll find mirrors.
The value story continues even when you step up to the higher-end Patriot models. For example, among the major enhancements in the 2012 Patriot Latitude model, with an MSRP of $19,745, are heated front seats. On most other small SUVs, they’re optional, and sometimes only included in an expensive package. This model comes with a slew of other comfort features, plus 17-inch aluminum wheels and heated exterior mirrors. There’s even a 115-volt inverter, useful for running small appliances on a camping trip or for providing emergency electricity during a home power outage.
On the safety front, the 2012 Jeep Patriot, as mentioned, earns the crucial IIHS “Top Safety Pick” rating. In addition to all mandated safety systems, the Jeep Patriot offers extra peace of mind with Electronic Roll Mitigation, Hill-Start Assist and side-curtain airbags that cover both rows.
The choice of two different four-wheel drive systems illustrates the brand’s commitment to both value and safety. Such a choice is unique in the class, and you’d expect that from the off-road leader. Jeep Freedom Drive I® is an available full-time, active four-wheel-drive system designed for all-season driving. A lockable center coupling puts the Jeep Patriot in four-wheel drive “LOCK” mode to maximize traction in deep snow, sand and other low-traction conditions.
No other compact SUV offers anything like the Trail-Rated® Freedom Drive II package in the 2012 Jeep Patriot. Engineered for safe and secure off-road driving, the package adds a dual-range version of the CVT. Engage off-road mode, and the transmission shifts to a 19:1 crawl ratio to keep vehicle speed slow and steady on steep inclines and while traversing rocky trails and other rough terrain. The package also equips the Patriot with 17-inch all-terrain tires, a full-size spare tire, skid plates, tow hooks, foglamps and a seat height adjuster.
There’s no question that the 2012 Jeep Patriot stands out among small SUVs. Of course, all that value and safety comes packaged in an iconic design that could only come from Jeep.
Come in and see how the 2012 Jeep Patriot delivers a genuine Jeep experience at the price of an ordinary crossover while providing the safety you demand from a family vehicle.
