Summer Movie Preview
Whether you want to find a family-friendly film or satisfy your craving for action, fantasy and even horror, the movies slated for release in summer 2012 won’t disappoint.

'Snow White and the Huntsman'
This Universal Pictures film is set to usher summer in with its debut on June 1. The plot seems to start much the same as the classic fairy tale: The evil queen (Charlize Theron) sends her huntsman (Chris Hemsworth) to capture Snow White’s heart. But in this tale, Snow White (Kristen Stewart) is no shrinking violet who cleans house with woodland creatures. She trains with the huntsman in the art of war so that she has the strength to challenge the evil queen.

'Brave'
Another upcoming summer movie with a strong female protagonist is the Disney-Pixar creation "Brave," which follows the story of Merida, a princess and talented archer who is fed up with the customs that restrict her freedom. When Merida accidentally unleashes chaos, she must embark on a journey that demands all of her skills, and all of her bravery. Set to come out June 22, "Brave" looks like it will hold up Pixar’s knack for entertaining kids and adults alike with compelling characters, beautiful animation, lots of energy and of course, a good deal of humorous touches.

'Bourne Legacy'
Anyone who enjoyed the action-packed trio "Bourne Identity," "Bourne Supremacy" and "Bourne Ultimatum" will surely want to catch the latest installment this summer. The story operates in the same world as the other three movies, but introduces a new hero whose dire circumstances resulted from the previous storyline. The trailer promises the same kind of high-energy thrills, complete with explosions, hand-to-hand combat and a round of gunfire or two. In theaters Aug. 3.

'Sparkle'
Late pop star Whitney Houston will give one last performance this summer as Emma, the mother of a talented singing trio trying to make it on the Motown scene. "Sparkle" is a remake of the 1976 film of the same name. In the new version, Jordin Sparks plays the title character, set to be released on Aug. 17.

'The Possession'
Can’t wait until October to get your horror fix? You don’t have to. Just head to theaters starting Aug. 31 and you can catch "The Possession," which tells the story of a family beset by terror after accidentally acquiring a cursed box. The plot is based on an actual box that sold on eBay in 2004. The sellers claimed that the box was haunted and had brought them inexplicable misfortune.

Summer 2012 promises a smorgasbord of films ranging from family-friendly to action-packed. Pass the popcorn!
