Business Etiquette:Dos & Donts in the Workplace Today Business and cultural norms are forever changing. As always, how we express ourselves and interact in business today is important to us and our careers. How we are perceived is even more critical than the message sent vs. message received.
We are all in this together and while we all seek to improve our effectiveness, certain norms are expected and some outdated. Both old traditions and new perspectives will be discussed and challenged.
This structured discussion will ask participants to step back and see the impact of how we interact with each other in the work place.
Topics to be discussed: - Basics Your Mom Taught - Human Interaction - Phone - E-Mail - Meetings - Asking / Answering questions
What you will learn: - The standards by which you are judged, like it or not. - How to become more effective - Develop better relationships Who should attend: - All those who draw a paycheck - Anyone who interacts with people or technology - Persons within 50 miles - What you will take away: - An insight into generational perspectives - An honest evaluation of your present perspective - An appreciation of the larger picture
About the Speaker Gary Pezzuti of Summit Group has spent the past 30+ years as a Placement Professional serving most of the manufacturing sector and specializing in "Contingency Search" and "Interim Professionals". His focus is on the disciplines of Operations Management including Supply Chain, Manufacturing Management, Manufacturing Engineering, QA/QC and Systems Implementation. He has observed evolutionary changes in hiring procedures as well as the emergence of numerous "magical marketing techniques". Hello to All of Our PRSJ Members
Hello to all of our PRSJ members! V.P. of Membership: Frank Albatangelo
Now that we are in February, I want to thank all those members of the PRSJ chapter who have recently renewed their APICS memberships to continue with their APICS education and other chapter benefits. I would also like to extend a special welcome to our new members:
Mary Harless Annalisa Ugolini Rashmi Lalvani Fred Donavan Soniva Deshpande Nagahohan Uppara Angel Agosto
APICS-The Association for Operations Management is an international educational society recognized worldwide for its training and certification programs. Our nearly 70,000 members are resource management professionals from 20,000 manufacturing and service companies around the world. APICS members are individuals responsible for directing the supply chain, materials management, information services, purchasing, customer service, and quality control within their companies.
Membership in APICS is open to anyone with an interest in the field of Operations or Resource Management. Although the roots of APICS are in manufacturing production and inventory management, the scope of our society has broadened over the years to address operations and resource management issues in a wide variety of organizations, including banks, utilities, and health care. MEMBERSHIP BENEFITS: APICS membership brings with it a variety of benefits. APICS members receive the monthly magazine, APICS-The Performance Advantage and the APICS Dictionary, as well as the APICS International Conference and Exposition Proceedings. APICS members can participate in a variety of electronic discussion forums, receive information from the APICS Hotline, and take advantage of the APICS Career Center.
APICS members receive discounts on the hundreds of publications available at the APICS Bookstore. In addition, APICS members receive discounts on Society educational workshops and programs, as well as discounts on certification exam registration and registration for the APICS International Conference and Exposition. Of course, the opportunity to network with your peers is a benefit that's hard to put a price tag on - you may just find a solution to that problem that's been a real headache for your company!
APICS offers several categories of membership, including Professional, Group-Site, and Student. Anyone can join under a Professional membership. A Group-Site membership entitles a specific company facility or location to five designated members who receive the normal APICS publications, but any employee of the company is eligible for member discounts on publications and programs. A Student membership is available to full-time students at accredited institutions of higher learning. Education Educational programs, such as Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM) and Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP), provide information regarding the interdependencies of all business disciplines. APICS certifications are internationally recognized, often specified in employment ads, and can provide you with a foot in the door at the next employer. Members in between positions can attend our classes for just the price of the learning materials.
Member Application: If you are taking or plan to begin taking courses toward APICS Certification via classes held by APICS PRSJ, it makes good sense to become an APICS member and to qualify for the discount of 15% off each class. Your annual membership cost will be covered by the time you take your second class!! To become a member, either enroll online or download an application and mail it to APICS to start shaping your future today. APICS Membership is $200 ($165 for National Membership and $35 for Chapter dues). Be sure to request to be placed in the Princeton South Jersey chapter. It's Never a Bad Time to Work on Your Career
Your Career is Exactly That, Yours! Hello to all of our Princeton South Jersey Chapter members. We are winding down our fiscal year and have only two Professional Development Meetings left.
Our theme for May focuses on career management. We are very luck to have Gary Pezzuti with us this month. Gary has been a familiar face around APICS for several years. He is not only a profession career consultant but also served at various officer levels in his chapter. There are numerous people in our organization that have benefited from Gary’s advise over the years. Gary will be conducting an afternoon workshop on May 20th. This workshop, Career Insurance: How to Catalog & Present Your Expertise, is second to none. This is a hands on activity that will serve as a ready reference whether you are in a performance review situation, looking for advancement, or are interviewing for employment. This workshop is one of the best, and easiest, ways to learn techniques for broadening your skill set and investing in your professional future. To jump ahead, next month we will be having our annual Top Management Night. Each year we set aside our last meeting for a speaker that is an executive from a well known organization in our area. Be sure to check our website, www.apics-prsj.org for information on this year's speaker.
Don't forget about including some of the courses PRSJ offers in some of your career development plans. We have two courses coming up in May and one in June.
May 2009 May 12th Basics of Supply Chain Management, Mt. Laurel, NJMay 21st Master Planning of Resources, East Windsor, NJ June 2009 June 6th Basics of Supply Chain Management, East Windsor, NJ These courses are instrumental in helping you achieve either CPIM or CSCP certification. APICS certification is not easy to attain and is recognized throughout various industries for it's operations management excellence. These certifications are your key to demonstrating proficiency to employers by passing comprehensive and difficult exams. Even more important is the fact that you took the initiative to learn a complete body of knowledge in operations management.
Remember: If you want to earn more, you have to learn more. So please consider APICS certification as part of your career development. In the meantime, I look forward to seeing many of our members at the May and June Professional Development Meetings. George Lazarides, CPIM President, Princeton South Jersey Chapter
