Topic : How to be a Good Implementee

Speaker : Bryan Warshofsky

In today’s business environment change is a constant.  Companies of every size, in every industry are introducing new processes, procedures and systems in order to become more efficient. Many of us have been asked to be part of a team designed to implement change. We are the Implementees – the ones who are being asked to learn and embrace new processes, the ones whose world is being changed while continuing to do our “real” jobs and the ones who will be left after the implementation team leaves.

While much has been written about how to manage change, how to project plan, and how to manage implementation projects there is never a focus on what the Implementee can do to help.   This presentation is about the Implementee and what the Implementee can do to help contribute to a successful implementation.

For anyone who has experienced such implementations or who will be asked to do so in the future, this discussion will provide techniques to enable the Implementee to make the most of the experience.

Happy New Year

President’s Letter
From
George Lazarides

Happy New Year to you all!!!!

The holiday season has come and gone and now it is time for us to start on our resolutions for 2009.  The usual health improvements (loss of weight and increasing exercising) are back again as part of our standing resolutions.  However, now is time for us to look at the health of our careers.

We’ve all been watching the news and trying to determine our places in today’s uncertain economy.  There is a significant number of people that have been adversely affected by the market down turn and slumping economy.  They have now been called to action to find jobs, salvage personal finances, and keep households together.  It is not an easy time for them.   We we wish them all the best and PRSJ will help wherever we can.  But how about the rest of us who have just been cruising along the same way we have been for the last few years?  Shouldn’t we be doing something to enhance our value to our current, or possibly new, employers?  There is an old saying” In fair weather, prepare for foul”.  That is what we should be doing right now!  New opportunities appear during bad times but you have to look for them.  Luck has been defined as "When preparation meets opportunity".   Nobody is certain what the future will hold but now is a good time for reflection and planning for the future we would like to have.  There is no guarantee that planning will bring success but the lack of planning will almost always bring failure.  Where will you be 2014?  What will your career look like?  These are the questions that we should be asking ourselves as we move into the new year. The answers to these questions will provide the actions we should take now to prepare for the future.

Our chapter has been busy conducting the Professional Development Meetings and offering education for preparation to take the APICS certification exams.  We appreciate seeing our chapter members at the meetings and we’d like to see more of you.  The topics of these meetings are varied to meet our member’s interests and we’d like to to know what you’d like to hear about.  We have several expert resources on our Board of Directors, as well as knowledgeable PRSJ Chapter members and constituent companies, that can provide useful information on just about any logistics, operations, or supply chain topic.  So let us know what your interests are and we will do our best to meet them in the upcoming year.

Incidentally, our meeting for January will be taking a new twist as we will be meeting at the Triumph Brewery Company in Princeton.  This interesting change in venue is a result of the creativity of our programming folks trying to keep the meetings refreshing, no pun intended, for our members.  Our speaker, Bryan Warshofsky, will be speaking about how to be a good “implementee”.  It’s a topic that we don’t give a lot of thought to but is an indispensable factor for any initiative or program.  So come on out to the Triumph Brewery on January 21, 2009 and get to meet other PRSJ members.

Our education program will be offering new certification preparatory courses starting in January 2009.  These courses will be starting shortly and could help you advance your career.

Hello to All of Our Members
Happy New Year to all of our PRSJ members!

V.P. of Membership: Frank Albatangelo

We are now into 2009 I want to thank all those members of the PRSJ chapter who have recently renewed their APICS memberships to continue with their APICS education and other chapter benefits.

APICS—The Association for Operations Management is an international educational society recognized worldwide for its training and certification programs. Our nearly 70,000 members are resource management professionals from 20,000 manufacturing and service companies around the world. APICS members are individuals responsible for directing the supply chain, materials management, information services, purchasing, customer service, and quality control within their companies.

Membership in APICS is open to anyone with an interest in the field of Operations or Resource Management. Although the roots of APICS are in manufacturing production and inventory management, the scope of our society has broadened over the years to address operations and resource management issues in a wide variety of organizations, including banks, utilities, and health care. MEMBERSHIP BENEFITS: APICS membership brings with it a variety of benefits. APICS members receive the monthly magazine, APICS-The Performance Advantage and the APICS Dictionary, as well as the APICS International Conference and Exposition Proceedings. APICS members can participate in a variety of electronic discussion forums, receive information from the APICS Hotline, and take advantage of the APICS Career Center.

APICS members receive discounts on the hundreds of publications available at the APICS Bookstore. In addition, APICS members receive discounts on Society educational workshops and programs, as well as discounts on certification exam registration and registration for the APICS International Conference and Exposition. Of course, the opportunity to network with your peers is a benefit that's hard to put a price tag on - you may just find a solution to that problem that's been a real headache for your company!

APICS offers several categories of membership, including Professional, Group-Site, and Student. Anyone can join under a Professional membership. A Group-Site membership entitles a specific company facility or location to five designated members who receive the normal APICS publications, but any employee of the company is eligible for member discounts on publications and programs. A Student membership is available to full-time students at accredited institutions of higher learning. Education Educational programs, such as Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM) and Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP), provide information regarding the interdependencies of all business disciplines. APICS certifications are internationally recognized, often specified in employment ads, and can provide you with a foot in the door at the next employer. Members in between positions can attend our classes for just the price of the learning materials.

Member Application: If you are taking or plan to begin taking courses toward APICS Certification via classes held by APICS PRSJ, it makes good sense to become an APICS member and to qualify for the discount of 15% off each class. Your annual membership cost will be covered by the time you take your second class!! To become a member, either enroll online or download an application and mail it to APICS to start shaping your future today. APICS Membership is $200 ($165 for National Membership and $35 for Chapter dues). Be sure to request to be placed in the Princeton South Jersey chapter.
