The Power of Supplier Innovation-Tapping into Suppliers to Help Improve your Business
What does it take to create a framework for real collaboration from a supplier perspective? This presentation will examine the collaboration with customer and supplier on improving current business models through innovation. We will discuss some samples of current QPSI innovation samples, the relevant measurements, and how our customer involvement impacted partnership towards the goal of savings and environment sustainability. About the Speaker Stephanie L. Campelo-Arasz Stephanie Campelo-Arasz offers more than a decade of accomplishment-laden experiences in the consumer/pharmaceutical packaged goods industry. These experiences include driving achievement of the highest priority sales growth, brand development, product launch, market share, distribution expansion, and operation efficiency goals. She was a key strategic and tactical contributor in activities that drove sustainable and increased growth for the QPSI brand. Stephanie brings valuable insight and knowledge regarding the leadership and management challenges faced by small start up and growing company’s brand.
Stephanie graduated from Monmouth University with a Bachelor of Arts in 1998 and began her career in project management in the cosmetic industry where she developed an interest in the packaging industry and parlayed this into an interest into a sales/account management position with a leading manufacturer/packager of consumer/pharmaceutical goods. Demonstrating initiative from the start, Stephanie pioneered sales, account management, and customer relationship management techniques that more than doubled daily sales while saving her employer tens of thousands in costs annually through process improvements and new route efficiencies, Quickly distinguishing herself as a leader, in less than three years, Stephanie earned fast track position into management (upper).

Happy New Year
President's Message Hello and Happy New Year to all of our members!
I hope you all had a fun filled holiday season enjoying your families, friends and of course, the food. Oh yes, the food. Now it's time to start working on those New Year's resolutions that we make every year. We make them with good intentions and mostly for self improvement. A general starting point is the annual dieting - weight loss - exercise more type resolutions to keep our bodies functioning properly. However, it is just as necessary to keep our minds and careers fit. In today's business environment, mastering general operations skills and keeping on top of new developments are imperative to maintain healthy positions in our markets. We are seeing more and more the effect of not only global competition but also the swift impact that one industry can have on many others. The price of oil is a good example because it affects us in the business and private sectors. In order to meet the challenge of the market and environmental forces that are placed on our businesses, it is important to be proficient in supply chain management techniques as well as creative in our thought processes for implementation. The speaker at our first meeting of the 2007-2008 season, Mitch Cahn, presented a chronology on how he reached out to learn new techniques in order to improve his marginally profitable small company, "Union Works". He chose to attend a seminar on Lean but wasn't sure how to go about the making the changes he needed. So he hired a consultant. Within one year he was able to cut waste enough to become significantly profitable, and as a bonus, freed up sizable capacity from the original factory floor which allowed him to start another line of clothing; also stating to generate a nice profit. The APICS Princeton South Jersey Chapter (PRSJ) is here to help our members grow and attain/maintain profession health. We do this by hosting monthly Professional Development meetings and offering exam preparatory courses to help attain APICS certification. We are offering two courses that will be starting in February:
Basics of Supply Chain Management, Shiseido starting in February - date TBA
Certified Supply Chain Professional, Shiseido starting February 19 Maybe it's time that you start on a path towards certification that would benefit both you and your company. We have to keep in mind that employers base salary and promotions on the value an employee contributes to the company. Like the old saying: "If you want to earn more...... you have to learn more". But that isn't all of it. The employer also benefits by having APICS certified individuals who have demonstrated proficiency in learning both the basics and the latest techniques in operations management. These are part of the skill set that employers rely on to improve efficiencies and lower costs. Our monthly Profession Development Meetings give our members the chance to listen to speakers who have "been there and done that". The speakers are forthcoming in sharing how they overcame specific obstacles that we see day to day in our businesses. They are also approachable and willing to answer questions during their presentations, or individually for the throughout the meeting. Many of the speakers had to blend industry knowledge, educational training, and innovation to solve their problems or accomplish their goals. We try to select speakers that are contemporary, knowledgeable and interesting to listen to. We also would appreciate suggestions from our members on what speakers they would like to hear. So come on out to our meetings to listen to our speakers. It will also be a great chance to meet other chapter members. Now you have two good reasons to make PRSJ part of your new year's resolutions. I think you will find this resolution enjoyable and rewarding. George Lazarides President, Princeton South Jersey Chapter

Our nearly 70,000 members are resource management professionals from 20,000 manufacturing and service companies around the world. APICS members are individuals responsible for directing the supply chain, materials management, information services, purchasing, customer service, and quality control within their companies. Membership in APICS is open to anyone with an interest in the field of Operations or Resource Management. Although the roots of APICS are in manufacturing production and inventory management, the scope of our organization has broadened over the years to address operations and resource management issues in a wide variety of organizations, including banks, utilities, and health care. MEMBERSHIP BENEFITS: APICS membership brings with it a variety of benefits. APICS members receive the monthly magazine, APICS-The Performance Advantage and the APICS Dictionary, as well as the APICS International Conference and Exposition Proceedings. APICS members can participate in a variety of electronic discussion forums, receive information from the APICS Hotline, and take advantage of the APICS Career Center. APICS members receive discounts on the hundreds of publications available at the APICS Bookstore. In addition, APICS members receive discounts on Society educational workshops and programs, as well as discounts on certification exam registration and registration for the APICS International Conference and Exposition. Of course, the opportunity to network with your peers is a benefit that's hard to put a price tag on - you may just find a solution to that problem that's been a real headache for your company! APICS offers several categories of membership, including Professional, Group-Site, and Student. Anyone can join under a Professional membership. A Group-Site membership entitles a specific company facility or location to five designated members who receive the normal APICS publications, but any employee of the company is eligible for member discounts on publications and programs. A Student membership is available to full-time students at accredited institutions of higher learning. Education Educational programs, such as Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM) and Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP), provide information regarding the interdependencies of all business disciplines. APICS certifications are internationally recognized, often specified in employment ads, and can provide you with a foot in the door at the next employer. Member Application: If you are taking or plan to begin taking courses toward APICS Certification via classes held by APICS PRSJ, it makes good sense to become an APICS member and to qualify for the discount of 15% off each class. Your annual membership cost will be covered by the time you take your second class!! To become a member, either enroll online or download an application and mail it to APICS to start shaping your future today. APICS Membership is $145 ($110 for National Membership and $35 for Chapter dues). Be sure to request to be placed in the Princeton South Jersey chapter.
