Letter From The President
by Dennis Moore, CPIM, CSCP
It is hard to believe it is May and summer is just around the corner. This has been an exciting year for PRSJ with so many accomplishments. During the year that ends June 30, 2012, we had fourteen events for our members. As a result of this hard work PRSJ is well on its way to being recognized as a Platinum Chapter. This is the highest rating a chapter can receive from APICS.
The year is not over! We still have lots to do:
- We have education classes scheduled in East Windsor and Mt Laurel throughout the summer and into the fall. Now is the time to start earning the CPIM and CSCP certifications. Go to our website http://www.apics-prsj.org/ to check out the education schedule and more importantly register for the classes.
- There is a Professional Development Meeting scheduled in Woodbury NJ on May 16, 2012. The guest speaker is Karin L. Bursa VP of Marketing for Logility. Join us to learn about 6 Keys to Accelerating Inventory Turns. Leverage proven techniques to gain competitive value through reduced buffer stock, freed-up working capital and improved service levels. You cannot miss this one.
- Last year we had a PDM (actually a relaxing night out with all our APICS friends) at the Waterfront Park in Trenton. We had so much fun we are doing it again this year. The date for the game is Wednesday May 23rd. We will start the evening at 6:15PM, with a short presentation from Gary Pezzuti speaking about career planning. The game will begin at 7:00PM. We will have a suite to watch the game, “ballpark food” will be provided and the Thunder will be playing the Akron Aeros. Register now at http://www.apics-prsj.org/
- Our #1 event of the year is “Top Management Night”. This event is being held at the Olde York Country Club in Bordentown, NJ on June 20, 2012. This is where we give special recognition and thanks to the “Member of the Year” and Company of the Year”. We always have great speakers and we swear in the newly elected board members who will serve the membership the following year. We will remind you when our website is ready for registration. See you there!
Does the PRSJ board take the summer off? No way! There are education classes to be conducted and there is a mid-summer strategy meeting to plan for the next year.
Make sure that you mark your calendar for the events you want to attend and register early!
Thanks!!

What's In It For Me?
by Kerry T. DiCiano
How APICS helped my career?
I am writing this article to share my thoughts on how I know APICS has not only helped my career but has excelled my career in ways I could not have imagined possible in the past. APICS has given me a shared language which has opened the doors of opportunity to speak to any level of any organization and fully understand the entire business from Business Planning down to the execution phases of Production Activity Control and anything in between.
APICS has opened my eyes to the importance of the flow of total communication between all activities within an organization. This total communication makes for the most efficient ways of throughput of material to the customer which in turn equals 100% customer satisfaction. APICS has taught me many different ways for continuous improvement activities to help the entire organization save on costs, improve customer satisfaction, work smarter not harder, lower inventory carrying costs and organize the work environment. These are just a few of the various Lean activities that help the reduction of waste.
APICS Educational classes have helped me question a process or activity with regards to improving it. By removing certain steps, it can help with the cycle time of an activity, less handling of material in an activity, less travel time in an activity and much more. Overall, it has put me on a journey that has no limit. APICS has trained and taught me the "How-To's" in helping a business, the employees and myself to succeed beyond belief. It has also taught me in much more detail to share the knowledge that I have gained with others and continue to learn and train others to the fullest of my ability. I could keep going with many more examples on how APICS has helped my career but I will end with this: APICS has taught me that Continuous learning, Change and Teamwork are keys for a successful business now and going forward into the future.
Thank You And Best Regards To All.
Vice President Of Programs,
Kerry T. DiCiano
