Moscow, Idaho – Longtime Appaloosa owners Henning and Suzanne Koch of Stevinson, Calif., have been selected as 2003 inductees into the Appaloosa Horse Club’s (ApHC) Hall of Fame. All inductees will be honored at the ApHC Awards Banquet held in conjunction with the National Appaloosa Show in Oklahoma City, Okla., July 2 – July 10, 2004.

Candidates for this award are judged according to their great and favorable impact on the Appaloosa industry, regional and national distinction, or outstanding service rendered to the ApHC.

Henning and Suzanne have been involved in the Appaloosa industry for more than 40 years, and have experience with nearly every segment of the breed. Suzanne has served the ApHC and the Appaloosa industry for many years, predominantly in the state of California. She helped form the Cal-Western Racing Association and has served as a charter member and Board Director for Cal-Western Appaloosa Association. Together, Henning and Suzanne have actively competed in Appaloosa shows, open shows, endurance riding, racing and rodeos.

“So many fantastic things have happened to us,” says Suzanne. “And it’s twice as exciting because we raise them [Appaloosas] ourselves.

Henning and Suzanne were previously honored when their Appaloosa stallion, Double Or Nothin, was inducted into the ApHC Hall of Fame in 1997. According to ApHC records, Hall of Famer Double Or Nothin has sired 119 foals who have earned 44 bronze medallions. They are diverse in their talents as winners in barrel racing, pleasure, reining, roping, cattle classes and racing. His get have earned more than 2,132 performance points, 10 Performance Superior Event awards and six Versatility Championships.

“My lifelong dream and goal for years was to breed a horse to get into the Hall of Fame,” says Suzanne. “After that I really had to think about where I was going with these horses. It [being inducted into the Hall of Fame] never entered into my mind. I was really surprised.”

Henning and Suzanne will be presented an engraved plaque with their photograph and biography on it. One will also be placed on permanent display at the Appaloosa Museum and Heritage Center in Moscow, Idaho. Henning and Suzanne will also receive honorary Lifetime Membership in the ApHC.

Other 2003 inductees into the ApHC Hall of Fame include: Lew & Jo Ann Eklund of Carlin, Nev., and Daniel Lopez of Ojai, Calif.

The ApHC is the international breed registry for Appaloosa horses and is located in Moscow, Idaho. Since 1938, the ApHC has been dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the breed. Agile, intelligent and distinctively colorful, Appaloosas excel in a variety of events, and are beloved around the world for their even temperaments and reliability.
