2009 Summer Youth Jobs Program- Request for Youth

The new federal economic stimulus package, called the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, provides one-time funding to support youth workforce programs under the Workforce Investment Act, including summer jobs for youth. This creates a great opportunity for youth that want and need a job this summer to have one. Work experience is the core component of a summer jobs program and should ensure that participating worksites introduce the rigors, demands and awards associated with holding a job.

In cooperation with the North Orange County ROP, we are seeking worksites that are committed to helping youth receive a meaningful work experience and that can provide proper worksite supervision to impart good world of work ethic and increase the youths work readiness skills.

Frequently asked Questions:

What are my costs?
NONE! The Summer Youth Program is federally funded and will cover wages and worker's compensation insurance for eligible low-income Anaheim residents' ages 14-24.

What are my obligations?
To provide meaningful work experience for youth during the summer, complete performance evaluations adhere to worksite agreement, supervise and mentor youth to the world of work. The North Orange County ROP will match youth to worksites, provide case management and handle the payroll process.

When will the youth be available for employment?
Youth may be available to state work in late June or early July. Typical work experience assignments last 8 weeks.

Is there a minimum/ maximum amount oh hours per week that youth can work?
Youth may work a minimum of 20 hours and up to 24-30 hours per week depending upon budget considerations.

If you are interested in providing a worksite opportunity please contact Julie Sedlacek at (714) 765-4355 or Alma Herrera (714) 765-4345. Also, please feel free to share this information with other staff as appropriate.
