Cynthia Bloomquist
The spot landing contest starts at 9:30. All are entered - standard approaches, please! Enter the raffle for a ride with Reese Dill in his T-6. Awards will be given at noon at Whosie's Diner (previously Mel's Diner) on the field. Buy a new
Katama Fly-in T-shirt for your collection.
Breakfast and lunch will be available at the diner. Check out new offerings under the direction of Becca Lundstrom, who with Michael Creato now manages the airfield and diner.
Take the afternoon to explore Edgartown, the Vineyard, or go to the beach (you can taxi down to parking for South Beach at the end of the field). Then join us at Lambert's Cove Country Inn for cocktails and dinner, starting at 6:30. Remember to bring your own drinks - West Tisbury is a dry town. Call Cynthia Bloomquist for reservations at 508-693-5248.
That number is also the Go-No Go line for the fly-in. Call if you aren't sure about the weather.
BASIN HARBOR PREVIEW
Aircraft and avionics displays will be on Sunday, September 7. Early arrivals are likely on Saturday, the 6th. Join us for dinner at 7:30 Saturday night - get the modified American plan at the BHC and say you will be joining the ACONE dinner in the main dining room. (Basin Harbor Club is at 1-800-622-4000.)
On Sunday we will have T-shirts and raffle tickets for rides in a Cirrus and a T-6 available at the tent on the field. Here's the news from Dick Bicknell about his work bringing some interesting planes and avionics to Basin Harbor this year:
One never knows who will actually show up, but promises so far, are encouraging. A good group of the more exciting new aircraft, and a commitment from both WSI & UPSAT to exhibit live their "Quantum Leap" in avionics. The CNX80 had the huge advantage of dissecting Garmin's 430/530 & coming up with a box about 1/2 way between the two, adding more intuitive operation and a bunch of innovative very useful new features. WSI, looks like it may have the best answer, to date, for simple, quick WX in the cockpit displayed (initially) on the MX20. Just this week, a new software update is being delivered for the MX20 which gives a picture in a picture, defining hazards within 5 miles, a split screen to accommodate 2 maps, and at the bottom of the screen, a graphic horizontal display of terrain. Overlaid on this will be the Nexrad WX automatically updated every 5 minutes via satellite. Hot stuff, I think.
So come prepared for interesting updates and good comraderie.
New ACONE Officer Slate
At the Godfrey L. Cabot Award Luncheon on June 6 the new slate of ACONE officers was introduced. President David Graham will serve for another year. Vice President will be Ken Bloomquist, taking the reins from Michelee Cabot who has served so well for three years. Deirdre O'Connor remains as our Secretary as well as Dan Schrager as Treasurer.
