Toledo, Ohio-based AccuShred has recently been awarded HUBZone certification by the Small Business Assocation. The HUBZone Empowerment Contracting Program, which is included in the Small Business Reauthorization Act of 1997, stimulates economic development and creates jobs in urban and rural communities by providing contracting preferences to small businesses that are located in a HUBZone and that hire employees who live in a HUBZone.
The Small Business Administration is responsible for regulating and implementing the HUBZone Program. It certifies concerns for eligibility to receive HUBZone contracts and maintains a listing of qualified HUBZone small businesses federal agencies can use to locate prospective vendors. The certification process to ensure AccuShred fit the criteria took 18 months, and will enable the company to help government agencies to fulfill specific purchasing quotas.
AccuShred's new SBA HUBZone designation means Federal contracting officers will have an easier avenue to allow AccuShred provide its services, and will enable these agencies to use funds that have been set-aside for the use of HUBZone-certifified contractors. Last year, the Federal government spent over $43 billion in the purchase of goods and services, which makes it the largest buying entity in the country.
“This is a great growth opportunity for AccuShred," company Vice President Nate Segall said. "As a small business, however, it can also be a challenge. Our new HUBZone designation will provide an easier avenue for government agencies to work with AccuShred. I’m thrilled we have been certified as a HUBZone contractor, and look forward to seeing what kind of growth and job creation this will bring our business."
