CSUN/USSAAC Conference: Partners DeRuyter, Blackstone, Higginbotham and Shane, as well as AAC-RERC Writers Brigaders’ McLeod, Kim and Younkerman are attending USSAAC’s 2007 Biennial Conference Building Advocacy Skills: Encourage, Inspire, Inform from March 21-24, 2007 in Los Angeles.
The USSAAC conference is being held in collaboration with the 22nd Annual Technology and Persons with Disabilities Conference presented by California State University-Northridge Center on Disabilities.
· Frank DeRuyter and Kevin Caves have a paper entitled AAC Update from the RERC on Communication Enhancement. Other staff and partners may join in.
· Lateef McLeod, Johana Schwartz and Sarah Blackstone will present The AAC-RERC Writers Brigade and expect to be joined by Matt Kim and Tom Younkerman.
· Sarah will also talk about the AAC-RERC Webcast Series (thanks to lots of assistance from David McNaughton).
· Fei Luo, Jeff Higginbotham and Greg Lesher will present Crawling the Web for AAC.
· Frank DeRuyter will also be talking out AT outcomes during the conference
RESNA’s 2007 Conference will be in Phoenix Arizona from June, 15 – 19. The AAC-RERC will also be hosting an exhibit booth and updates on AAC-RERC activities. If you’re at the conference, please make sure you stop by the RERC row to say hello and pick up copies of our literature and look for partners’ Kevin Caves, Frank DeRuyter and perhaps others as well.
8th Annual Conference on Augmentative and Alternative Communication on Evidence-based Decision-making in AAC (February 9-11, 2007, in Atlanta, GA).
Frank DeRuyter deliverd a keynote entitled, Platform Independent and Web-Based AT Outcome Data Collection Tools. David R. Beukelman talked about Teaching EBP at the Pre-service level and AAC-RERC Advisory Board member Lewis Golinker presented a session entitled Managing the funding maze in EBP times. Each presentation generated discussion. “They showed us the many dimensions and complexity of issues surrounding ‘evidence-based practice’ in AAC,” said one participant.
At the ATIA 2006 Conference and Exhibition in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, Deruyter and Higginbotham presented information on the following topics.
