New Class from WMS Takes Lean for the Office to the Next Level
Washington Manufacturing Services, in partnership with Agilean, has developed a new course on implementing Lean to office environments. This new course, Applying Lean Production Techniques to the Office, builds on the basic principles taught in the OfficeSmart© class and teaches students how to apply Lean in the unique environment of the office.

Lean is a customer-focused approach to maximizing customer value and minimizing waste through a culture of continuous improvement. Lean organizations produce greater value with higher quality in less time. However, translating Lean techniques to an office environment is not always as easy as using the same techniques in a production environment.

This new course, which includes a live simulation, focuses on how Lean can work in an administrative environment to maximize value to the customer. Students will learn how to map office processes to make waste visible and techniques to remove the waste. In addition, the course will cover how Lean continuous improvement techniques can be applied to all areas of the office, including innovative or creative processes such as engineering, marketing, IT and sales. Finally, participants will learn how to manage and measure the Lean office, and ultimately, maximize profitability.
